International tour...My first gig in Paris, France.

A young boy told his mother that he wanted to be a musician when he grew up. The mother replied, "Now, honey, you know you can't do both".

My mother never said that, but she probably thought it several times. Since high school, I have played bass and performed professionally in Boston, New York, Paris, Los Angeles, Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta and even Disney World. While living in Boston, I studied with a great bassist and friend, Larry Jackson and made a part-time living playing in several rock, pop, blues and jazz bands throughout New England. College gigs and Aprés Ski parties were the most fun.

I have been drifting between art and music careers for most of my life. For a time, I was even able to do both, but after I got married, I soon realized that I needed to "grow up" and get a life (with money in it) before doing anything serious with music again. Being a performing and recording musician is an incredible rush, but it turned out to be no way for me to make a living.

For anyone who's interested in my current setup... I have a 1972 Fender Jazz bass with EMG active pickups, a BADASS bridge and a homemade brass nut with the grooves filed so that the strings are really close. I use a Hipshot D-Tuner and DR Highbeams. My effects are all BOSS Chorus and Digital Reverb foot pedals, as rackmounts never seemed to work well in live settings. My amp is a very sweet SWR Workingman's 15. After almost 30 years of various configurations (Ampeg, Guild, SWR Pedula, Acoustic, Fender, Hartke, Squire, GK, and JBL), I believe that I finally have the ultimate sound.

Now, if I could just start playing again...

Anyway, here are a few of the bands I have recorded with. I'm hoping to get some mpegs and more images available soon.

What's the difference between a guitar player and a large pizza?

A large pizza can feed a family of four.
