Costello
Although
similar to Papyrus, Costello was designed to
be used primarily as a text font in three weights, Light,
Regular and Bold... they look great at 10 point. All of
the
characters were first sketched on tracing paper (see my
sketch pads below) then about 20 characters were finished
by hand
in pen & ink (see Costello Light handlettered
prototype). This happened all before Fontographer
came along.
Hopefully, now I will be able to streamline the production
process using this excellent program.
I
am currently redrawing Costello Light in Illustrator
CS using some techniques found in Leslie Cabarga's excellent
new book, "The
Logo, Font and Lettering Bible". It is soooo
much faster and much more accurate than drawing by hand...
I am finally 100% sold on the digital thing. This font is about
60% complete.
